Introduction
DEVS LLC is the developer and publisher of the Apps. The Apps connect you with an AI-powered avatar that you can speak to using your device’s microphone, and that responds with spoken guidance. The faith companion Apps (Pray with Jordan, St. James Jordan, and Walk with Jordan) offer a prayer companion avatar. The Rabbi Daniel — Parashat HaShavua App offers a Torah-teacher avatar that discusses the weekly Torah portion (the parashat hashavua). This policy explains what information is collected during these interactions, how it is used, and the choices you have.
Who This Policy Is For
The Apps are intended for teens, young adults, and adults interested in faith-based or AI-assisted spiritual or educational conversation. Walk with Jordan is intended for ages 13 and up; the other Apps, including Rabbi Daniel — Parashat HaShavua, are intended for ages 17 and up. The Apps are not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
How the Apps Work
Each App connects you with an AI-powered avatar. You can speak to the avatar using your device’s microphone, and the avatar will respond with spoken answers, guidance, prayer, or teaching. In the faith companion Apps, the avatar is a prayer companion. In the Rabbi Daniel — Parashat HaShavua App, the avatar is a Torah teacher who discusses the weekly Torah portion; the App also displays the current week’s portion and a short summary. The avatar is provided through a third-party platform (Kaltura, which acquired E-Self in 2025), and the underlying language model is Google’s Gemini 2.5 Flash.
The Apps are built using a hybrid architecture: the App provides the native launch experience, branded splash screen, and container, while the avatar interaction itself is loaded from a secure web page hosted on our servers or our partner’s servers.
What the Avatar Is — and Is Not
The avatar is an AI. What it says is generated by a language model at the moment you speak to it. It is not written in advance, it is not reviewed by a member of clergy before you hear it, and it is not endorsed by any church, parish, or congregation as teaching.
The avatar is not a priest, pastor, rabbi, or counselor. A conversation with the avatar is not spiritual direction, confession, counseling, therapy, or medical or psychiatric care. Please do not rely on it as a substitute for your own clergy or for professional care. If a decision matters to you, speak to a person.
It can be wrong. The avatar draws on Scripture and on religious tradition, and it may still be mistaken, or say something that does not reflect the teaching of your own community. Where the two differ, your community is right and the avatar is not.
If you are in danger or thinking of harming yourself. The avatar is built to respond — it will say so plainly, encourage you to reach someone you trust, and point you to crisis resources, including the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline in the United States. But it is not an emergency service: it cannot call anyone on your behalf, it cannot alert anyone, and it cannot follow up with you afterwards. In an emergency, call 911 or your local emergency number.
The avatar will tell you it is an AI whenever you ask.
Information We Collect
- Voice audio: When you tap to speak with the avatar, your device’s microphone captures audio and transmits it over a secure connection to Kaltura, where it is transcribed and sent to Google’s Gemini 2.5 Flash model to generate a response. The response is returned to the avatar, which speaks it back to you.
- Automatically collected data: Device type and model, operating system and version, IP address (used to estimate approximate location and provide the service), session timestamps and duration, and basic usage events such as app launches.
- Analytics events: Aggregated, anonymized records of how the App is used — for example, when you open the App, when the avatar page loads, when you begin speaking with the avatar, and how long you spend in the App. See the “Analytics & Crash Reporting” section below for full details, including differences between Apps.
- Diagnostic information: If the App crashes or encounters a technical issue, your device’s operating system (iOS or Android) may share diagnostic reports with us or with Apple/Google, in accordance with your device settings. Some Apps also collect crash reports through Firebase Crashlytics, as described below.
- Feedback you choose to send: In Apps that offer a “Send Feedback” screen, we receive the message you write, an optional rating of how things are going (positive, neutral, or negative), the App language you are using, and your device platform (iOS or Android). Where the screen offers it, you may also choose to include your email address so that we can reply. Nothing is sent unless you tap Send. See “Feedback You Send Us” below.
Analytics & Crash Reporting
To understand how our Apps are used, improve the experience, and detect technical problems, we use analytics services from Google. These are configured for first-party use only — meaning the data is used by us to operate and improve the Apps, and is not shared with advertisers, marketing networks, or data brokers.
Two different analytics implementations are used across our Apps:
- Faith companion Apps (Pray with Jordan, St. James Jordan, Walk with Jordan): These use Firebase Analytics and Firebase Crashlytics, including a randomly generated Firebase Installation ID as described below.
- Rabbi Daniel — Parashat HaShavua: This App uses Google Analytics 4 via the Measurement Protocol (a lightweight, server-style reporting method) rather than the Firebase SDK. As a result, this App does not generate a Firebase Installation ID and does not use Firebase Crashlytics. Instead, it generates a single randomly generated analytics identifier stored locally on your device, which distinguishes one installation from another but is not linked to your name, email, Apple ID, or Google account.
What analytics data is collected
- App usage events: when the App is opened, how long sessions last, when the avatar page loads, when an avatar conversation begins (microphone access granted), how long you spend in the App, and when conversations end. (Not every event is collected in every App.)
- Device information: device model, operating system version, App version, device language setting, and approximate region (country level — we do not collect precise location).
- Installation identifier: a randomly generated identifier (the “Firebase Installation ID” in the faith companion Apps, or a locally generated analytics client ID in the Rabbi Daniel — Parashat HaShavua App) that distinguishes one device from another but is not linked to your name, email, Apple ID, or Google account.
- Crash and performance diagnostics: in the faith companion Apps, stack traces, error messages, and timing information collected by Firebase Crashlytics when something goes wrong, so we can fix bugs. (The Rabbi Daniel — Parashat HaShavua App does not use Crashlytics; diagnostics for that App come only from your device’s operating system per your settings.)
- For our bilingual Apps (Pray with Jordan, Walk with Jordan, and Rabbi Daniel — Parashat HaShavua): which language (English or Spanish) you selected, so we can understand bilingual usage patterns.
What we explicitly do NOT collect through analytics
- We do not collect or transmit the content of your prayers, your spoken voice, conversation transcripts, or any audio recordings through our analytics. Voice handling is described separately in the “What Happens to Your Voice Data” section.
- We do not collect Apple’s Identifier for Advertisers (IDFA). The IDFA is explicitly disabled in our configuration on iOS.
- We do not collect Google’s Advertising ID on Android for analytics purposes.
- We do not use any advertising or marketing SDKs in the Apps.
- We do not track you across other apps or websites.
- We do not share analytics data with advertisers, data brokers, or marketing networks.
How analytics data is used
- Aggregate measurement: understanding how many people use the Apps, how often, on which devices, and in which countries.
- Funnel analysis: identifying where in the user experience people stop — for example, if many users open an App but few reach the avatar conversation, we know we have something to fix.
- Retention measurement: understanding whether users return to the Apps over time.
- Crash debugging: identifying and fixing technical bugs that affect real users.
- Licensing-partner reporting: for partners (such as parishes or congregations that license a branded version of an App), we provide aggregated, anonymized usage reports so the partner can see engagement within their community. No individual user is identifiable in these reports.
Where the data lives and how long we keep it
Analytics data is stored on Google’s platform under the DEVS LLC account. Aggregated event data flows into Google Analytics 4 with a 14-month retention window; older data is automatically deleted by Google. Where Crashlytics is used (the faith companion Apps), crash data is retained for 90 days. We do not export raw analytics data to any third party.
Your choices regarding analytics
You may uninstall the App at any time, which prevents any further analytics data collection from your device. To request deletion of analytics data tied to your installation, contact us at info@devs-llc.com; we will assist with locating your installation identifier if needed and request deletion from Google. See “How to Request Deletion of Your Data” below for the full process.
What Happens to Your Voice Data
When you speak with the avatar, your voice audio is transmitted over a secure connection to Kaltura, where it is transcribed and used to generate the avatar’s response. Voice audio and conversation data are retained by Kaltura, acting as our data processor, for service operation, quality assurance, and security purposes. This data is not used for advertising and is not sold.
Conversation summaries: After a conversation ends, an automated summary of the conversation (a short description of its themes and outcome — not a full transcript or audio recording) is generated and made available to DEVS LLC and, where an App is operated with a ministry or licensing partner (such as a parish, congregation, or youth ministry), to that partner’s designated care team. These summaries are used for pastoral care, community wellbeing, and safety review — for example, so a ministry team can understand what kinds of concerns are being brought to the App. Summaries do not carry your name or contact details, and nobody — including us and including a ministry partner — can identify you from them or contact you about something you said. If you want someone to reach you, please tell a person directly. Summaries are not used for advertising and are not sold.
In-app consent: Before your first conversation, the Apps display a consent notice describing that your voice and the content of what you say are sent to our AI conversation service (Kaltura). No conversation data is transmitted until you accept this notice. Declining the notice means no conversation data is sent.
You may request deletion of your voice and conversation data at any time by emailing info@devs-llc.com — see “How to Request Deletion of Your Data” below.
Note that the Analytics & Crash Reporting section above describes a separate data flow from voice handling. Analytics records that a conversation started — not what was said. Voice content is handled exclusively through the Kaltura/Gemini pipeline described in this section, never through our analytics.
Feedback You Send Us
Some Apps include a “Send Feedback” screen where you can tell us anything about the App — what you like, what is missing, or what went wrong. Using it is entirely optional.
What we receive: the message you write; an optional rating (positive, neutral, or negative); the App language you are using; your device platform (iOS or Android); and the date and time it was sent. Where the screen offers it, you may also choose to give us your email address so that we can reply to you. If you leave the email field empty, your feedback reaches us without any way for us to contact you.
What we do not do with it: your feedback is not linked to your voice conversations, your conversation summaries, or your analytics identifier. We do not add your email address to any mailing list, we do not use it for marketing, and we do not sell or share it. We use it only to reply to the feedback you sent.
Please do not include sensitive personal details in your message, such as health information or information about other people.
Feedback is not an emergency or pastoral-care channel. It is read by the DEVS LLC team, not by clergy or counselors, and it is not monitored around the clock. If you are in danger or thinking of harming yourself, call or text 988 (in the United States), or call 911 or your local emergency number.
How long we keep it: feedback messages are kept for up to 24 months and then automatically deleted. An email address you give us is kept only until we have replied to you, and is automatically deleted after 12 months at most. You can ask us to delete your feedback sooner at any time — see “How to Request Deletion of Your Data” below.
Where it is stored: feedback is received and stored on our behalf by Cloudflare, our infrastructure provider, as described in “Third Parties Who Process Your Information.”
Information We Do Not Collect
- Your name, phone number, or home address.
- Your email address — unless you choose to give it to us in a “Send Feedback” screen so that we can reply, as described in “Feedback You Send Us.”
- Payment card or bank details. Some Apps offer an optional paid membership; payments are processed entirely by Apple (App Store) or Google (Google Play), and DEVS LLC never receives your card or bank details. Apple and Google provide us only with aggregated sales reports.
- Your contacts, photos, calendar, or other device data outside the microphone.
- Precise GPS location.
- Apple’s Identifier for Advertisers (IDFA) on iOS — explicitly disabled in our configuration.
- Google’s Advertising ID on Android (not used by our analytics).
- Any data used for advertising, marketing, behavioral profiling, or cross-app tracking.
How We Use Your Information
- To deliver the avatar conversation you requested.
- To operate, maintain, and secure the Apps.
- To diagnose and fix technical issues.
- To improve the Apps based on aggregated, anonymized usage patterns.
- To generate conversation summaries used for pastoral care, community wellbeing, and safety review, as described in “What Happens to Your Voice Data.”
- To provide aggregated, anonymized engagement reporting to licensing partners (such as parishes or congregations that license a branded version of an App).
- To read feedback you send us, improve the Apps in response to it, and reply to you if you gave us your email address.
- To comply with applicable legal obligations.
We do not use your information for advertising, marketing, or any form of behavioral profiling.
Third Parties Who Process Your Information
- Kaltura (formerly E-Self): Provides the avatar rendering, voice transcription, and conversational infrastructure. When you speak with the avatar, your voice is transmitted to Kaltura. Kaltura acts as our data processor. Kaltura’s privacy policy, including a dedicated section on AI Avatars, is available at https://corp.kaltura.com/legal/privacy/privacy-policy/.
- Google (Gemini): The conversational AI responses are generated by Google’s Gemini 2.5 Flash model, which Kaltura integrates as part of its avatar platform. Your transcribed voice input is sent to Gemini to produce a response. Google’s privacy policy is available at https://policies.google.com/privacy.
- Google (Google Analytics 4 & Firebase): Provides usage analytics and, in the faith companion Apps, crash reporting. Anonymized event data is sent to Google Analytics 4; in the faith companion Apps, crash diagnostics are processed by Firebase Crashlytics. Both act as our data processors. Google’s privacy and security information is available at https://firebase.google.com/support/privacy.
- Cloudflare: Provides the servers that receive and store conversation summaries and any feedback you send us. Cloudflare acts as our data processor. Cloudflare’s privacy policy is available at https://www.cloudflare.com/privacypolicy/.
- Apple and Google (App Stores): When you download the Apps from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store, Apple and Google collect information according to their own privacy policies. Where an App offers an optional paid membership, Apple or Google processes the payment. DEVS LLC receives only aggregate download, usage, and sales statistics from the app stores.
- St. James Episcopal Church, Newport Beach (St. James Jordan App only): The St. James Jordan App loads the prayer page from stjamesnewport.org, which is operated by St. James Episcopal Church. Any information the church collects through that web page is governed by the church’s own privacy practices.
Microphone Access
The Apps request access to your device’s microphone so the avatar can hear your spoken questions, prayers, or comments. You can deny or revoke microphone access at any time in your device’s Settings:
- iOS: Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone → toggle off for the App.
- Android: Settings → Apps → [App name] → Permissions → Microphone.
If microphone access is denied, you will not be able to speak with the avatar.
Reminders & Notifications
The Rabbi Daniel — Parashat HaShavua App, the Walk with Jordan – Youth App and the Pray with Jordan App offer optional reminders — for example, a note before Shabbat naming that week’s parasha (Rabbi Daniel), a morning note naming the verse of the day and a weekly invitation to talk with Jordan (Walk with Jordan), or a morning note naming the prayer of the day and a weekly invitation to pray with Jordan (Pray with Jordan). Reminders are off until you turn them on in the App’s Reminders screen, and your device will ask for your permission to show notifications the first time you do. Reminders can only be set between 7:00 am and 9:00 pm.
- Created on your device: reminders are scheduled by the App on your phone and shown by your phone’s own notification system. We do not send them from a server, and no email address, phone number, or account is needed.
- What we can see: your reminder choices (which reminders, and on which day and time) are stored on your device. Our anonymous usage measurement records only whether each reminder is switched on or off, so we can see how many people use reminders; it is not linked to your name or contact details.
- What the reminders contain: Rabbi Daniel downloads the list of upcoming weekly parashot from our server, hosted by Cloudflare — the same way it shows this week’s parasha on the home screen; this request contains no information about you beyond what any internet connection carries. Walk with Jordan’s verses and Pray with Jordan’s prayers come from inside the App itself, so their reminders need no download at all.
You can turn reminders off at any time in the App’s Reminders screen, or turn off notifications for the App in your device’s Settings:
- iOS: Settings → Notifications → [App name] → toggle off Allow Notifications.
- Android: Settings → Apps → [App name] → Notifications.
Data Security
We use industry-standard security measures, including encrypted (HTTPS/TLS) transmission of all data between the Apps, our servers, Kaltura, Google Analytics/Firebase, and Google Gemini. No system is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security, but we take reasonable steps to protect your information.
How We Share Your Information
- We do not sell your personal information.
- We share information with the trusted service providers listed above (Kaltura, Google Gemini, Google Analytics/Firebase, and Cloudflare), who process data on our behalf under contractual obligations and are required to provide the same or equal level of protection for your data as described in this policy, and to use it only for providing services to us.
- We may share aggregated or de-identified information with licensing partners (such as parishes or congregations) for the purpose of reporting community engagement with their branded version of the App. No individual user is identifiable in these reports.
- We may share aggregated or de-identified information that cannot reasonably be used to identify you.
- We may disclose information if required by law, legal process, or to protect rights, safety, and property.
How Long We Retain Your Data
We retain personal information only as long as necessary for the purposes described in this policy, including legal, accounting, or reporting requirements. Specific retention periods:
- Voice data: addressed in the “What Happens to Your Voice Data” section above; deletable on request.
- Analytics events: 14 months on Google Analytics 4, after which they are automatically deleted by Google.
- Crash reports: 90 days in Firebase Crashlytics (faith companion Apps only).
- Feedback messages: up to 24 months, after which they are automatically deleted.
- An email address you give us in “Send Feedback”: kept only until we have replied to you, and automatically deleted after 12 months at most.
- Operational logs: retained as needed for security and fraud prevention, and otherwise deleted or anonymized when no longer needed.
What Rights Do You Have Over Your Data?
Depending on your location and applicable law, you may have rights to request access, correction, deletion, or a copy of your personal information, and to object to or restrict certain processing. To exercise these rights, contact us using the details below. We will respond within 30 days.
How to Request Deletion of Your Data
You can request deletion of the data associated with your use of any DEVS LLC App (Pray with Jordan, St. James Jordan, Walk with Jordan, or Rabbi Daniel — Parashat HaShavua) by following these steps:
- Email info@devs-llc.com with the subject line “Data Deletion Request.”
- Tell us which App you used and, if possible, the approximate dates of use. Because our Apps require no account or registration, we may ask you to help us locate your data (for example, by assisting with your device’s analytics installation identifier). If you sent us feedback, tell us roughly when you sent it and what it said, or the email address you included.
- We will confirm your request and complete the deletion within 30 days.
What is deleted: voice and conversation data held by our processor (Kaltura), analytics events tied to your installation identifier (Google Analytics), and any feedback you sent us, including an email address you gave us.
What may be kept: aggregated, anonymized statistics that cannot identify you, and minimal records required by law or for security and fraud prevention.
Uninstalling an App stops all further data collection from your device at any time.
California Residents (CCPA/CPRA)
California residents have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act, including the right to know what personal information we collect, the right to delete it, and the right not to be discriminated against for exercising these rights. We do not sell personal information.
European and UK Residents (GDPR)
If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, we process your information under the legal bases of (a) performance of the service you request, (b) our legitimate interests in operating, securing, and improving the Apps (which is the basis for our analytics), and (c) your consent where applicable (such as microphone use, or giving us your email address in “Send Feedback”). You have all the rights listed above, plus the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection supervisory authority.
International Data Transfers
Your information may be transferred to and processed in the United States and other countries where our service providers (Kaltura, Google Gemini, Google Analytics/Firebase, and Cloudflare) operate. These transfers are protected by appropriate safeguards, including standard contractual clauses and, where applicable, participation in the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework.
Children’s Privacy
The Apps are not intended for and are not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has used the Apps, please contact us at info@devs-llc.com and we will delete any associated data.
We recognize that faith-based and educational apps may be used in family settings. We encourage parents to review this Privacy Policy and to supervise any use by minors.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post updates on this page and revise the “Last Updated” date. If changes are material, we may provide additional notice.
User Consent Clause
By downloading, installing, or using the Apps, you acknowledge and agree to this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree with any part of this Privacy Policy, please discontinue use of the Apps. Your continued use of the Apps constitutes your consent to the collection, use, and sharing of information as described here.
